How MDG Started
The MDG brand was founded in 1991 when MDG launched its operations as a white-glove, computer manufacturer and retailer.
In the 1990’s, the personal computer space was saturated by big players such as IBM, Dell and HP. The manufacturers controlled the supply and the price points. For a consumer, a personal home computer was very expensive, plus the buying experience wasn’t very pleasant. The stores were geared towards techies. For a non-technical person, it would have felt overwhelming.
MDG shifted the shopping experience to provide a customer-centric environment that was highly personalized. MDG customers could build the computer they wanted, component by component. Customers were given appointment times where they could consult with an MDG representative. The representative would map out the specs to meet the customer’s computer requirements and MDG would build the customer’s computer.
MDG took the market by storm and became a major competitor to the top OEMs (Other Equipment Manufacturers). Unlike other OEMs, MDG not only offered a personalized buying experience; MDG saw the importance of offering tier-one, customer support.
MDG wanted to ensure that each customer was cared for from beginning to end. Between MDG’s stores and Head Office, MDG continuously grew its Service Team. At one point, there was just as many Customer Service Representatives as there were to Sales staff. By putting so much care into its Support Services, MDG separated itself from the other PC manufacturers.
MDG grew to over 25+ retail stores in Canada and key city centers in the United States. As one of the top 5 players in the white-glove PC market, MDG didn’t go unnoticed!
Personal computers were a big-ticket item. MDG wanted to make it feasible — so that every household could have access to a computer. Everyone needed one, but not everyone could afford one. To facilitate the purchase, MDG created a flexible payment plan by bringing leading consumer financing programs to its customers.
Where MDG Is Now
Since then MDG has evolved and grown to an ecommerce store. MDG keeps expanding into new product categories and growing its product lines — giving MDG customers a greater selection of items to choose from.
In addition to ecommerce and bringing leading consumer financing programs to its customers, MDG continuously invests in its people and technology. The goal is to provide a frictionless and enjoyable shopping experience for MDG customers.
